Sculpture is stepping out of the galleries and into our daily lives like never before. But what happens when a client doesn't just want a sculpture—they need one to solve a design problem? We sat down with one of our longtime collaborating designers to dive into one of his most memorable projects. This isn't just a story about picking art; it's a case study on how sculpture became the hero that saved a stunning new home from feeling completely hollow.
Part 1: The 'Hollow' House - Understanding the Client's Dilemma
Q: Let's start with the project itself. Can you set the scene for us?
A: Absolutely. This was a private residence, a beautiful new build. The client had finished the construction and interior decoration, but when it was all done, he walked through it and felt... nothing. He described it as "hollow." As he described, it was aesthetically pleasing but emotionally flat. It lacked depth and, crucially, a point of conversation.
Q: What made this project stand out to you?
A: The client's request was uniquely bold toward sculptures. He didn't want a single, uniform style. He wanted us to curate distinct sculptures for different areas, both indoors and outdoors, that would each tell their own story. Most clients seek cohesion, but this one was asking for curated diversity. It was a fantastic challenge that allowed us to truly match the sculpture to the specific energy of each location.
Part 2: The Anchor - Solving the 'See-Through' Entryway
Q: So, where did your team even begin to tackle that 'hollow' feeling?
A: According to our client and our on-site investigation. The main entrance of his house was a prime problem. You walked in the front door and your eyes went straight to the dining room—no mystery, no journey. It was just a vast, empty space in between. We needed an anchor.
After discussion with team and the client, we proposed a custom, abstract stainless steel sculpture for that spot. It wasn't about filling space; it was about creating a focal point. This piece gives the eye a place to land, creating a moment of pause and intrigue as you enter the home (pictures of the sculpture shows as below)
Q: Walk us through the custom process for this anchor piece.
A: The client knew he wanted a "wow" factor for his dining area, which was all about sleek, modern elegance. We steered him towards a mirror-polished stainless steel sculpture. Why? It reflects light, amplifying the sense of space and brightness, and it’s the epitome of modern luxury.
Q: But here’s the key question we always get, and it's a fair one: "The website pictures are flat. How do I know what it will feel like in my space?"
A: This is where our process is crucial. We don't expect you to guess. Once we zeroed in on a shape and finish, we created a detailed 3D rendering. This isn't a generic mock-up; it's tailored to the client's chosen size and finish, giving them the closest possible preview of how the sculpture would live and interact with the light in their actual home. It bridges the imagination gap.
Part 3: Guiding the Journey - Sculpture in the Garden
Q: What about the outdoor? How did you translate this approach to the outdoor spaces?
A: The garden felt flat and unstructured. The client wanted to create distinct "rooms" within it, each with its own mood. Sculpture was the perfect tool to define these zones and guide you through a narrative.
For a quiet meditation corner surrounded by wood, we selected a bronze sculpture. The deep, rich patina of bronze provides a visual weight that grounds the space. It creates a feeling of calm and permanence, and the material contrasts beautifully with the natural wood while harmonizing in its earthy, timeless vibe. It’s a piece that encourages introspection.
For a more formal, family worship area, the tone needed to shift towards reverence and purity. For this, our first and strongest recommendation is always marble sculptures. Marble has a sublime ability to capture the finest details in figurative work, from the serene expression on a face to the delicate folds of drapery. Its cool, smooth texture feels soft to the eye and the touch, inherently fostering a sense of peace and devout contemplation.

Scale is Everything: It's not about getting the biggest piece you can. It's about getting the right piece. We meticulously measure the space and consider sightlines to ensure the sculpture commands attention without overwhelming the room.
Let the Materials Talk: The material tells half the story.
- Stainless Steel is for modernism, light, and futuristic reflection.
- Bronze is for classicism, warmth, and a soulful presence that ages with grace.
- Marble is for purity, tradition, and timeless elegance.
